Theresa did a terrific job representing Ghana. Working behind the scenes, she tried to change government policy on things like free school lunches, free prenatal care, and free, universal basic education.

Through her Foundation, Theresa maintained her advocacy and support activities when her husband left government in January 2009. She also made more time for her friends, extended family, and children. She frequently went to see her siblings, Sister Ama, Brother JH, and Brother Peter. Even though she wasn’t feeling well, she went to Mass since she didn’t want her brother to worry about missing her at church. She was honored to receive the title of Papal Dame of the Order of Saint Gregory the Great in 2010 from the Vatican.

Theresa’s health forced her to resign from public life. She valiantly and quietly endured her sickness with dignity.

At the end of August 2023, she developed a cold and was hospitalized. After a few days, she recovered and was released from the hospital, but she stayed weak. With her family gathering around her, she passed away quietly and elegantly in the afternoon of October 1, 2023, at the family home in Peduase.

Her 61-year-old spouse, John Agyekum Kufuor, one sister, all five of her children, and fourteen grandkids survive her.
