Things Never To Say To Someone When Starting A New Relationship

5. Nothing

It could seem like there isn’t much you can say to your friend without making the conversation awkward while they are enjoying the honeymoon phase of a new relationship. That can be especially prevalent if you’re not in a relationship or single and find it difficult to relate to your friend who has turned into a human version of the heart-eyes emoji. Perhaps you’re feeling abandoned and are unsure of how to react to your friend’s joy.

Saying the incorrect thing might occasionally be worse than saying nothing at all. When your friend tells you how excited they are about their new relationship and you meet them with radio silence, they will sense that something is wrong. Regardless of your relationship situation, talking about your thoughts can help you two stay close and clear the air.

Psychotherapist Matt Lundquist told Insider that if you’re jealous of your friend or worried that your connection may end, you can start by acknowledging and processing your own emotions. Then, discuss your worries with your friend so that you two may come up with a solution if you’re worried about how these feelings will affect your friendship.
