She later made the mistake of mailing her letter of resignation to numerous online work groups, one of which Jian was a member of. Jian learned that Guan Yue had been working for two companies while being employed full-time by his software company. Following some preliminary investigation, Liu Jian reported Guan Yue’s actions to the police.

Liu Jian sparked police inquiries that led to the discovery of a significant 50 million yuan swindle that had been going on for at least three years. At the time of her arrest, she had contracts with 16 different businesses, but she wasn’t employed by any of them. The fact remained that she was being paid a monthly salary in addition to commissions from those she had helped find work for.

In connection with the fraud, Yue, her husband, and more than 50 other conspirators were imprisoned.

According to reports, this type of fraud is widespread in China where trained interviewees and specialized groups of people with impressive CVs steal employers’ monthly salaries without actually working for them.
