Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, vice president, has declared that in order to prevail in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer elections scheduled for Saturday, November 4, 2023, he needs the approval of Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Dr. Bawumia unintentionally converted the Asante-Akwasidae into a rallying point on Sunday, September 3, 2023, as he was relentlessly surrounded by participants.
Dr. Bawumia joined the Asanteman to commemorate the 2023 Akwasidae celebration of the Asantes when the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, was seated in state at the Manhyia Palace.
He was accompanied by a number of MPs, most of them were dressed in beautiful Kente cloth.
“I came in peace, and today being Akwasidae, I came for a visit and to celebrate with him (Otumfuo),” Bawumia pleaded to Otumfuo at the Manhyia Palace. Once more, I first came here to request his blessing before running for the NPP flagbearer position.
“He gave me a blessing, and God gave him a blessing, which came true on August 26, 2023, enabling me to win the competition.
“I still need his approval since we will be holding another election to choose the flagbearer on November 4th.
