The fifth flight mishap in a week is reported by United Airlines, as the aircraft returns due to “a maintenance issue.”

The union’s safety committee sent out a letter saying, “While United Airlines is currently under public and government scrutiny, it could just as easily be American Airlines,” and urged members to report issues without giving in to pressure or fear.

In a statement, American Airlines reaffirmed that customer safety is its first concern, stating that “our industry-leading safety management system guides our robust safety program.”

The firm went on, “To further bolster our strong safety record and enhance our ever-evolving safety culture, it includes a multitude of collaborative programs—and regular touchpoints—with the FAA and all our unions, including APA.”
