No replay as FIFA throws out SAFA’s protest on alleged match-fixing against Ghana

SAFA lodged a complaint against the match officials after Bafana Bafana missed out on a place in the World Cup play-offs after losing 1-0 to the Black Stars.

SAFA had accused the match officials of deliberately favouring Ghana, while alleging match-fixing and match-manipulation.

However, after observing the facts of the case, FIFA concluded that the protest filed by SAFA lacked merit.

In a statement, the world’s football governing body said SAFA’s protest was inadmissible after failing to meet requirements.

“The protest lodged by South Africa has been declared inadmissible by the Disciplinary Committee as it did not meet the requirements foreseen under art. 46 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code and art. 14 of the Regulations of the Preliminary Competition of the FIFA World Cup 2022,” FIFA said in a statement to on Friday,” the statement, which was shared by Ghanasoccernet, said.

“The decision is subject to appeal.”

Meanwhile, the South African FA has hinted at contesting the decision, insisting they’ll consider their options.

SAFA CEO, Advocate Tebogo Monthlante said once SAFA gets reasons for the outcome, they will weigh their options.

“We have received the decision without details and we will request FIFA for the reasons and consider our options,” he said.
