As per usual, he had gone to a mobile money vendor on the Kasoa New Market road and told her he required her boss’ phone number to speak with him first since he intended to conduct a transaction involving a large sum of money. He retrieved the said boss’s Display Picture (DP) and used it as his after obtaining the number and storing it. Then he called the woman and pretended to be her boss, telling her to wire money right away to his new number because he had just changed it.

Unknowingly, the vendor transmitted the money to the suspect’s phone number, but fortunately, her boss unexpectedly showed up. When the suspect first noticed him, he attempted to flee by jumping into his stopped taxi, but the victims shouted and asked for aid, and locals pursued after and apprehended the culprit.

He was brought before the Kasoa Akwele District Court, where he was given two plots of land and bail in the amount of GHC20,000 with three sureties, all of whom had to be government employees.

According to reports, no one has shown at the police station to provide surety for the suspect, thus he is still being held.

On November 6, 2023, the case is set to be heard.
