According to a police source, the suspect went on to say that he and three other soldiers—among them, Musa Jafa of Tema Naval Base—went to the mining location in question in search of “chop money” and that after giving the workers a “warning shot” to frighten them, they fled.
He went on to say that he and his friends had kidnapped the excavator operator at the location, but bad luck had other ideas. The miners had him detained and turned him over to the police, all the while allowing his friends to go.
The soldier was then removed by the police from the citizens, taken into custody, and taken to the Obuasi District Headquarters.
He has been jailed pending additional inquiries, while efforts are underway to capture the other suspects.
