According to the Commission, there could be fines of up to 1% of TikTok’s global annual sales and “periodic penalties” of up to 5% of the platform’s average daily revenue if the TikTok Lite risk assessment and risk mitigation report are not turned in by Tuesday and May 3, respectively.
If the TikTok Lite features the Commission is looking into turn out to be DSA violations, TikTok may be subject to extra fines of up to 6% of its global annual revenue.
According to a commission official, the European Commission has never before employed the procedural instruments provided by the DSA, including the potential for fines and forced suspension.
The official informed the reporters on the call, “So far, this has never been necessary because in all our 40+ requests for information that have been sent, companies have always supplied the information.” “In general, we’ve never not heard back regarding our request for information.”
Officials from the commission continually refused to comment on whether TikTok had provided a justification for its failure to provide over the necessary data.
