The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) formerly hired Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) to provide upstream petroleum and mineral audit services. President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has approved the recommendation to stop this contract.
The ruling states that these services, which had not yet started, could be terminated without requiring payment to SML. It was based on a thorough audit report from KPMG.
President Akufo-Addo underlined the need for a thorough evaluation of technical requirements, value-for-money considerations, and stakeholder interactions prior to engaging in such services in light of KPMG’s findings in order to avoid potential revenue losses.
The President emphasized the need to assess the viability and efficacy of these audit services before deployment, even as he acknowledged their potential benefits in reducing income leakages.
Drawing further conclusions from the audit’s recommendations, the President said that the transaction audit and external pricing verification services might also be discontinued because of the inadequate value obtained by GRA’s neglect of SML’s contractual duties.
