It stated that the results of the investigations showed that none of the people who had been detained had a passport or other identity document proving their right to enter the nation illegally and their status as residents.

“More inquiries showed that on Saturday, November 11, 2023, a landlady at Anaji Hills, one madam Juliet Quayson, was approached by one Romio and Akwesi Daniel (Ghanaians), who have been identified as members of the syndicate involved in enlisting these gullible Ivorians under the pretense of running an internet business,” the statement stated.

The statement went on: “Madam Juliet Quayson agreed to rent out her house at a cost of GH¢24,000.00 for two years, according to a receipt retrieved from the suspects.”

With the exception of two, Bamba Ladja, 26, and Traore Yssouf, 21, who have been detained to aid in the investigations, it was stated that all of the suspects had been returned to their own countries.

However, the statement emphasized that before renting to any prospective foreign tenants, property owners in Ghana are required under the Alliens Registration Regulation, 1974, L.I. 856, to verify the tenant’s immigration status.
