Donald Trump’s enormous commercial empire is at stake in a civil fraud trial that got underway in New York on Monday.
In order to obtain favorable loans, the former president, his two adult sons, and the larger Trump Organization are charged with greatly inflating the worth of their properties by more than $2 billion (£1.65 billion).
Mr. Trump surprised everyone by showing up at the courthouse on the first day of the trial and criticizing the judge and the attorney general of New York, who filed the lawsuit.
He has called the case a hoax and denies any wrongdoing.
