Effective February 21, 2019, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has designated Uzoechina Molokwu as UBA Ghana’s managing director and chief executive officer.
It is anticipated that he will exercise leadership, enhance the management team’s capacity to supervise domestic operations, and propel the nation’s upward trajectory.
“Having served as Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of UBA Ghana since August 2023, Uzoechina Molokwu brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having an extensive background spanning over two decades in the banking sector,” the bank stated in a statement.
Prior to taking on the role of Executive Director at UBA Cote d’Ivoire, he worked in a variety of roles at UBA Nigeria, including Directorate Head, Regional Manager, and Branch Manager.
Uzoechina graduated from Nigerian colleges with a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. He graduated from UK universities with a Master of Science in Corporate Governance and an LLM in Business Law.
His career spans a number of industries, including consumer banking, small and medium enterprise banking, corporate banking, private client services, and energy banking.
In addition, he has an impressive background in risk asset portfolio management, company development, relationship management, credit evaluation, restructuring, and effective people leadership.

Kweku Awotwi, the Board Chairman of UBA Ghana, was mentioned in the release as praising and expressing confidence in Mr. Molokwu’s selection as UBA Ghana’s Managing Director and CEO.
The board chairman stated, “Mr. Molokwu brings a wealth of experience and leadership to his new role, having served as the Deputy Managing Director prior to his promotion.”
Mr. Awotwi highlighted Mr. Molokwu’s strategic vision and commitment to furthering the bank’s goals, underscoring his demonstrated record of excellence and dedication during his time as DMD.
He emphasized the value of stability and continuity in leadership, pointing out that the nomination of Mr. Molokwu guaranteed a smooth transition.
