The GaDangme Council asked Gborbu Wulomo to address the issues raised by the betrothal and make sure the 12-year-old girl’s rights and well-being are protected.
Throughout the engagement process, the Council stressed the significance of putting her best interests first, especially in relation to her education.
“Until she reaches the legal age of marriage, she should continue her education, and even marriage should not disrupt her education if she is still willing to continue,” the Council recommended.
The Council also urged the kid’s parents to watch after her closely and to remind her that, in spite of the expectations of tradition, she is still a child with the right to enjoy life and partake in age-appropriate activities.
In its statement, the GaDangme Council seeks to support the rights and well-being of the girl involved while addressing the public’s concerns about the betrothal.
It serves as a reminder that, despite cultural customs, the defense of children, their education, and their rights should always come first.
