The NDC said in a statement that was signed by Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer, that the unfortunate episode is only one more in a line of embarrassing incidents that have damaged the reputation of the ongoing games.

Michael Naaba, the reigning cycling champion of Ghana, suffered a setback recently when his own bicycle—which was necessary for the competition—broke down soon after it started.

Furthermore, Ghana’s swimming team chose not to compete in the 4×100 relay final for unknown reasons.

Reports suggest that Ghanaian athletes are dissatisfied with the inadequate preparations and equipment provided for the games.

Sammy Gyamfi stated that the results have been far from satisfactory, despite claims of significant financial investments by the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia NPP government, with $195 million allotted for pre-games arrangements and an additional $48 million assigned to the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for logistical support.

According to him, the NDC believes that the enormous expense is wildly out of proportion to the appalling results and the bad reputation it has brought to the country.

But the NDC denounced the blatant incompetence and corruption in the current administration, which have produced such embarrassing results, further damaging Ghana’s standing abroad and aggravating the country’s economic problems.

When the party takes over as leaders in 2025, they promise to handle the problem and hold the relevant authorities accountable.
