Just five laptops—from EC to NDC MPs—are missing out of all of our BVDs.
Regarding the seven biometric verification devices (BVD) that vanished, the minority in Parliament made charges that the Electoral Commission (EC) had to deny. The Minority Caucus expressed concerns on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, regarding the purported theft of BVD machines and asked the Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to open an investigation as soon as possible.
They conveyed concern that the absent biometric devices would have a negative impact on the upcoming general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.
The Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, responded, saying, “As confirmed by the Electoral Commission, seven biometric devices are gone. I request that the Ghana Police Service and the CID promptly release a statement outlining the specifics of their current investigations.”
On Wednesday, March 20, 2024, the EC made it clear that none of its biometric verification equipment had gone missing during a press conference.
In a news conference, EC Commissioner in Charge of Operations Samuel Tettey claimed that just five of the organization’s laptops had gone stolen.
