Under the previous National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, Tia was the Minister of Information. He passed away on Sunday, March 24, at the Upper East Regional Hospital.

John Tia began his multi-decade political career in 1982, when he was appointed Press Secretary of the Upper East Regional Secretariat of Workers Defense Committees and Peoples Defense Committees, an organization established by the military government known as the Provisional National Defense Council.

In addition to his position as Minister of Information, Tia was a member of parliament for Talensi, serving as their representative from January 1993 to December 2012, during the first parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The prestigious post of Member of the ECOWAS Parliament was occupied by Mr. Tia.
