According to an Ericsson estimate, by 2029, 85% of people worldwide would get 5G, with Africa setting the pace.

With several important African markets having already launched 5G FWA services, including South Africa, Angola, Nigeria, Kenya, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, fixed wireless access is emerging as a significant technology for servicing the continent’s growing broadband demands. According to the paper, this change can be attributed to its intrinsic flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and ability for quick deployment.

According to Hossam Kandeel, vice president and head of Ericsson Middle East and Africa’s global customer unit MTN and customer unit MTN Africa, “Sub-Saharan Africa is expected to continue to lead the continent in total mobile data traffic growth over the forecast period,” according to the most recent Ericsson Mobility Report.

The spread of 4G network coverage throughout the continent and the rising cost of data and smartphones will be the main drivers of this rise.”
