In order to secure appropriate industrial regulation, he also plans to introduce electric motorbikes for use in the business sector and offer training.

John Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reiterated his pledge to legalize the operations of ‘okada’ riders should he win the December 2024 general elections.

In order to secure appropriate industrial regulation, he also plans to introduce electric motorbikes for use in the business sector and offer training.

Motorbikes and tricycles are extensively used for business purposes across the country, even though they are currently banned, especially in rural areas where they are the main mode of transportation.

“If we come into power, we will legalize okada business,” Mahama said, emphasizing the necessity for regulation while addressing the people of Worawora in the Biakoye Constituency in the Oti Region. You won’t become a commercial rider just because you can ride a motorcycle; we will teach you the proper ways to conduct business. We’ll register each of you so that your activities can be controlled.”

“Electric motorbikes are available that are powered by electricity. You can use it as soon as you charge it at night. It is superior to burning fuel and uses less electricity. If we take over, we’ll present them,” he continued.

In order to give Ghanaian youth jobs, John Mahama pledged to legalize the Okada business, which is currently illegal in the nation, prior to the 2020 elections.

The pledge is good news, according to the Okada Riders Association, which also said that if it is carried out, more jobs will be generated.
