The public has been advised by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to anticipate increased power disruptions during peak hours, which are from 7 to 11 p.m.

ECG stated on social media that 630 distribution transformers in communities throughout its operational zones have been found to be overloaded as a result of rising power consumption.

It stated that this might lead to blown fuses and broken wires causing outages, particularly in the impacted areas between the 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. peak load periods.

The message went on, “But we want to reassure our customers that new projects and transformer upgrades are underway to relieve these transformers to ensure a more reliable power supply.”

“In order to ensure prompt rectification, customers residing in the underlisted communities/localities are advised to report any localized outage or voltage fluctuations to the ECG Call Center at 0302-611611, which is also accessible via WhatsApp, or to the ECG GH Official on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.”

The impacted customers were urged to be patient and supportive of the ECG as it works to further enhance Ghana’s electricity distribution infrastructure.

In response to the frequent power outages earlier this month, Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director (MD) of the ECG, stated that the business was having some maintenance problems.

He claimed that because the business uses machines, they could break down at any time and cause the problems that consumers are going through.

“We’re experiencing serious maintenance problems. The problem we are currently facing is unrelated to fuel. Around 4 p.m., the gas emergency safety valve breaks down, and you are dependent on a power plant that should provide you with approximately 360 megawatts of power. How do you proceed? It is a machine,” he said.
