He tried to run after defrauding a mobile money merchant, but his luck ran out and he was captured by locals.

Sixteen different victims reportedly stormed the police station to accuse him of defrauding them of varied quantities of money, according to UTV’s Jacob Kubi.

The suspect has been visiting mobile money stores to claim to be making a deposit into his account. After providing the vendor with the number inadvertently, he would later claim that the vendor mistyped the phone number and sent the money to the wrong person after the transaction was complete and he was asked to pay over the cash.

Then, he would take off with the money while denying any involvement for the vendor’s oversight. He would then proceed to go and take the “missing money” from the recipient.

Until the recent scheme backfired and resulted in his arrest, he appeared to have been working in concert with other accomplices and had previously used the same tactic to defraud other mobile money merchants of substantial sums of money.
