The government is providing millions of pounds in support to 25 local authorities, including those in the south-east of England, to help them decarbonize their fleets of buses.
The Zero Emission Bus Regional Areas program has allotted £16.2 million to West Sussex, Surrey, and Brighton & Hove.
The government effort is providing an extra £142.8 million and intends to increase the number of electric buses in England.
“What a breakthrough for our city!” exclaimed Trevor Muten, chair of Brighton & Hove City Council’s transport and environmental committee.
Up to 955 additional zero-emission buses and related infrastructure will be financed in England by government funds.
Surrey County Council will receive £3.2 million, and West Sussex County Council will earn £10.1 million.
