The NPP benefits by being in power and using its administrative authority, which carries with it a tacit influence on security services and election procedures. The presidential candidate of the NPP is younger, more adaptable, and will still be young after the elections in 2024 and 2028.
The NPP is aware that, despite President Akufo-Addo’s long-term plan to succeed himself through a surrogate, the 2024 elections are not a done deal.
There is still some time before the elections; therefore, the NDC must also not be misled by polling data or public expressions of discontent with the regime. Anything might occur.
The NDC, on the other hand, faces a more difficult mission since it must win over people from all political parties who are unhappy with their current state of affairs in order to support its demand to “Build the Ghana We Want Together.” Second, in an effort to dispel the notion that he had a Jimmy Carter-esque presidency that ended with his first term in office, the NDC is fielding a presidential candidate who, as a former president, can take over the country’s affairs for a mere four years.
However, it is in the best interests of the NDC to be able to secure a second four-year term with a successor to John Mahama who has seniority on his or her side, even after face-saving. Never give the idea that the NDC still has doubts about running for and winning the 2024 presidential election and intends to run its nominee again in the 2028 election.
