As part of its efforts to empower youth and develop the community, AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine has enrolled 40 young people in the Obuasi Engineering School’s one-year Youth Apprenticeship Program.
The beneficiaries, who were selected from the host communities of the mine, would receive training in trades such as welding, fabrication, electrical and mechanical technicians, heavy-duty machine operation (ADT, dump truck), and others that were deemed to be underrepresented in the mining sector and society.
Speaking at the formal introduction of the 40 new Youth Apprenticeship Program beneficiaries and the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected executives of the Unity Youth Zone Network, the umbrella organization for the mine’s host community youth groups, Senior Manager, Sustainability Stephen Adjei emphasized Iduapriem Mine’s dedication to youth empowerment and having a positive impact on the communities in which it operates.
“We at AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Mine are dedicated to creating a sustainable future, and we recognize that investing in the youth is essential to achieving this goal,” Mr. Adjei stated. “By offering leadership and skill development opportunities, we hope to cultivate the next generation of changemakers who will propel progress and prosperity in our communities.”
