Olukemi Olunloyo, a notorious public figure in Nigeria, has provided a general description of the group of individuals involved in a romance fraud involving Mona Faiz Montrage, also known as Hajia4Real.
As a former investigative journalist, Olunloyo projected that Mona would receive a sentence of no more than three years, out of a maximum of five years, based on information she obtained from sources within the US intelligence apparatus.
She claims that the fact that she provided detectives with vital information, including the names of some of her accomplices back in Ghana, is what led to the sentence being lowered.
“She snitched; therefore, she made a fantastic plea bargain. As I mentioned to you last year, she swears Ghana will “shake.”
“One is a well-known performer. An actor of renown is one. One is a very powerful politician. One is a highly successful businessman in the hotel sector. All Ghanaian,” she stated in a February 22 Facebook post.
She stated that she had been given the names of the quartet, but she was unable to reveal them because they were still private.
As part of her guilty plea in a romance fraud case that began with her arrest and extradition from the United Kingdom in 2023, social media influencer/musician Hajia4Real agreed to forfeit and restitute nearly US$2.1 million to American authorities.
Montrage, who faces a maximum penalty of five years in jail under US law, entered a guilty plea to one count of conspiracy to receive stolen money.
The authorities have not yet disclosed the date of the sentence.
