Dr. Bryan Acheampong, the Minister of Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for the Eastern Region’s Abetifi Constituency, has declared that the opposition National Democratic Congress’s presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, will officially retire from politics in December 2024 at the behest of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
“The 2024 elections are an election for the youth,” he declared. While Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia is sixty years old, John Mahama and Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang are sixty-five and seventy-two years old, respectively.
That comes to 137 years when you add the ages of Mahama and Jane Naana. The youth of Ghana will lead the nation from where it has come, so it is best for them to go and relax. In 2024, they will both retire alongside President Nana Akufo-Addo.
The Abetifi MP emphasized that former President Mahama would face President Akufo-Ado again in politics and stated that the general elections of 2024 are for the youth. He made these remarks to party supporters following the NPP unity walk at Mpraeso in the Eastern Region on Saturday, March 30, 2024.
Despite the difficulties Ghana encountered in 2023, Dr. Acheampong pointed out that the NPP government has since made strides and put measures into place that have helped the country’s citizens.
