As the Bank of Ghana approaches another 70-year milestone, its governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, expressed his expectation that the nation’s largest bank by assets, GCB Bank, will keep breaking down boundaries, inspiring change both within and outside of Ghana.
He commended the bank, stating that “GCB has consistently demonstrated vision and resilience” in an environment where the banking industry has been marked by difficulties and uncertainty.
GCB Bank began as a single-site bank in the 1950s, but since then, it has opened over 150 branches and 11 agencies, reaffirming its commitment to financial inclusion and becoming the bank with the largest branch network throughout all 16 regions of Ghana.
Speaking at the GCB Bank-sponsored thought leadership event, Governor Addison claimed that the bank has enabled many people to have access to financial services by expanding its offerings into new and isolated locations.
He continued, “Moreover, GCB has benefited from the advancement of digital finance by becoming the first bank in Ghana to introduce a bank-led mobile money service (G-Money), which presently has over 2.7 million users.
