Critics, including lawmakers and civil society leaders, argue that the Attorney General’s revelation has left the nation in suspense and that full disclosure is necessary for accountability and transparency. Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Second Deputy Minority Whip and Weija-Gbawe MP, urged Dr. Ayine to name the MP in question, challenging him to provide evidence to support his claims.
Calls for Transparency
Other prominent figures have joined the chorus, demanding that the Attorney General reveal the MP’s identity. Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), emphasised the need for transparency to protect Parliament’s reputation. Nana Akomea, former Managing Director of the State Transport Corporation (STC), questioned the Attorney General’s approach, asking why he was withholding crucial information while selectively revealing other details².
Investigations and Allegations
Dr. Ayine alleged that NSS officials, including the CEO, made payments to a Ghanaian MP to influence the media and suppress investigations into the ghost names scandal ¹. He disclosed that eight suspects had been interrogated and were cooperating with the investigation, with evidence of payments made into the accounts of top NSS executives by private vendors of the scheme.
The Attorney General’s revelation has sparked widespread concern, with many calling for accountability and transparency. As the investigation continues, Ghanaian citizens eagerly await the outcome, hoping that justice will be served and that those responsible will be held accountable
