Ken Ofori-Atta is using high taxes to undermine Bawumia’s presidential campaign.

The GRA further urged all car owners to follow the guidelines and complete their duty by paying the Act 1112-mandated emissions charge.

In order to transfer VAT collected from customers who had exceeded their lifeline power use, the Akufo-Addo government had earlier in January asked the GRA to communicate with the two power distribution corporations.

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) have been directed by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to collaborate with GRA in implementing a value-added tax (VAT) on households that have exceeded the maximum consumption threshold for block charges for lifeline units as of January 1, 2024.

“In accordance with Sections 35 and 37 and the First Schedule (9) of Act 870, the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) are hereby requested to cooperate with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to guarantee that the implementation of VAT for residential customers of electricity above the maximum consumption level specified for block charges for lifeline units takes effect on January 1, 2024.”
