Accra Hearts of Oak star Daniel Afriyie Barnieh delivered a performance of a lifetime in his full Black Stars debut, garnering amazing reviews from Ghanaians on social media.
The Accra Hearts of Oak forward was a “dangerous” player for Ghana at the right-wing position because of his propensity to run into small spaces, create opportunities, and effectively support Tariq Lamptey in right-wing defence.
The game’s most contentious incident involved Barnieh, who successfully used a technique called “suluyia” in Ghana to push the ball through Eray Comert’s knees before being kicked in the box.
Ghanaians thought that the incident clearly merited a penalty for their country because Switzerland’s Eray Comert tripped him in the penalty area after being nutmegged. To the dismay of the Ghanaian fans, the referee waved play on.
Despite losing its challenge for a penalty kick, Ghana went on to win the game in the second half thanks to goals from Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo.
