Adwoa Safo To Step Down And Contest As Independent?

Supporters of Dome-Kwabenya MP, Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo are calling for her to step down and contest her seat as an independent candidate after controversial Electoral Area Coordinators elections held at the Atomic Library on Sunday.

The Dome-Kwabenya Constituency has been a scene of controversy this past few days with regards to the ongoing New Patriotic Party election of its Local and National Executives across the country.

Three New Patriotic Party Dome-Kwabenya members vying for electoral area coordinator positions in the constituency filed a contempt suit to halt the polls until elections were held across the 356 Polling Stations to elect the executives who would go on to vote for the Electoral Area Coordinators as demanded by the party’s constitution.

The committee rather of their own volition declared all executives of the 199 old Polling Stations maintained and went on to fix their own persons in the 157 New Polling Stations contrary to the modalities put across by the General Secretary of the Party, John Boadu.

The committee again went against their own directives by removing some of the old executives from the and replacing them with different people believed to be against the incumbent MP, Adwoa Safo.

This led three aspiring coordinators Jessi Larbi, Alex Kwame Frimpong and Jacqueline Joycelin Asamoah to file a suit against the elections with the court placing an interlocutory injunction on the election of the electoral area Coordinators until a final hearing of the matter in court.

On Saturday,  the supposed date for the elections, supporters of Adwoa Safo stormed the Abokobi Women’s Centre to protest the election to which the Regional Police Command agreed only for a u-turn on Sunday where the elections were reorganised with the excuse that they had received orders from the top echelons of the Regional and National Party to supervise the election.

This has disenfranchised supporters of the Gender Minister who have called for her to resign her seat as MP and contest the seat as an independent candidate since it has become clear to them that the current state of affairs is being masterminded by the party at the Regional and National Level.

Be patient, it will take some time before Ghana sees prosperity

The Gender Minister’s supporters are adamant that should the status quo be maintained in the constituency the Dome-Kwabenya will become another Fomena where Hon. Andrew Amoako Asiamah who was dismissed by the Party from Parliament successfully sailed through to secure a win in the 2020 elections as an independent candidate.
